The OSKC level 2 with Wilderness camping course will start with an online lesson to prepare you to show up to the course with the right camping equipment and food. The course will start in person on the shores of Georgian Bay where you and your fellow students and instructors will head out and set up camp. You will learn how to select, and then navigate to a good campsite. How to set up tarps and tents to comfortably live outdoors for 6 days and camp kitchen and sanitation skills. Once you are settled in you will work on the level 2 paddling skills, rescue skills, navigation, towing, and more all while monitoring the weather and exploring the world’s largest freshwater archipelago. This course will teach you all the necessary skills to use your kayak to camp and explore, safely and effectively. This is more than a course with experiences instructors, it is a six-day trip with like-minded students that all learn from each other as well.

In 2018 Paddle Canada split the Paddle Canada Level 2 skills course curriculum into sea kayak skills and wilderness camping skills. Before that time we would run our course over five days on trip, among Georgian Bay’s many islands. In our opinion, this is the best way to run this touring program. There is so much learning that happens in the evenings in camp from discussions with our experienced instructors and other students on the course which are invaluable. There is so much learning that happens from living outdoors in the environment you are learning about. So if that sounds like it appeals to your style of learning, then the on-trip version of our level 2 skills program might be for you.

Exclusive OSKC bonus: Continue your learning online after your course.

As an added bonus when you take your Paddle Canada course with OSKC you will receive one month free access to Online Sea Kayaking, thanks to our exclusive partnership. Online Sea Kayaking has a collection of videos and learning modules that you will gain access to after your course so you can review the skills that you just learned and start working towards the next level. These videos are filmed beautifully and the instruction is clear and easy to understand. The key to learning is repetition. We have seen great improvement in our long term students that have used Online Sea Kayaking to compliment their in-person training. What’s more, as a student of OSKC you can also get 10% off your subscription for life! Just use this discount code when checking out at Online Sea Kayaking: “ONTARIOSEAKAYAK”

Included with your course is a copy of Navigation, Sea State and Weather. This is an excellent learning resource that will be used as a text book to assist in your learning during the course, and for you to refer to after the course. An added value of $30.99

We also offer the Paddle Canada Level 2 skills course without wilderness camping. This is a four day course and you can find out more information here.

Really loved the level 1 course. Your personalities and the way you work together made for a fun weekend. We learned a lot and both feel better prepared to perform either an assisted or solo rescue.
